Kook & Hoomen is a working studio for sound and image. The studio records rooms, makes photographs and prints them, lights small interiors for the camera, and keeps a bench where the tools are repaired rather than replaced. Everything published here comes from that practice.
The journal
The journal holds four stands. Sound & sessions covers recording, microphone placement and mixing. Photography & darkroom covers exposure, chemistry and the finished print. Film & motion covers lighting, movement and the cut. Craft & notes covers storage, maintenance and the routines that keep a studio working between seasons.
Each entry answers one question. The answer comes first, in the opening paragraph, so a reader who stops there still has it. The working detail follows, then the sources the studio actually read while writing.
How an entry is dated
An entry carries the date it was filed. When a method changes, or a specification is revised, the entry is rewritten and dated again rather than left to age quietly.
Plates
Photographs in this journal are plates from the studio's own sessions, prints and shooting days. Each one is captioned by its subject.
